Our love and prayers go to Norm, Melvin, David and families. Lillian Eckert Johnson passed away Sunday morning, August 5, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar. Her funeral was held on Wednesday, August 8, 2012, at 10:30 am, at the 1st Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, IA.
Lillian was born on March 28, 1921 in Mitchell County, IA to Ross and Effie (Tunmore) Eckert. She attended Otranto School graduating high school in 1939. Lillian married Norris M. Johnson on November 25, 1939. Three sons were born to them: Melvin, Norman and David. They farmed in the Otranto area until 1965, when Norris was employed by D.C. Jorgenson & Son, Inc. until 1972. They moved to DeWitt, IA and ran the DeWitt Farm Store until moving back to St. Ansgar in 1983.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norris; parents Ross & Effie Eckert; two grandchildren, Michelle Marie Johnson and Greg Alan Johnson; one great grandchild, Hanna Olivia Balandek; four brothers, Jason, Shirley, Clarence, and Willis; three sisters, Etta Valyda, Stella, and Ruth.
We can shed tears that she is gone,
or we can smile because she has lived.
We can close our eyes and pray that she was still here with us,
or we can open our eyes and see all she has left.
Our hearts can be empty because we will no longer see her,
or we can be full of the love she shared with us.
Lillian wasn’t with us this year, but we can rejoice knowing she is enjoying her own Eckert Reunion. She will be missed.
